‘GroundLess’

When God was creating a life for me, for some reason, understandable only in a far future, he gave me very slender and thin legs. Legs that almost don’t belong to the rest of my body, so it feels.

For a long time, the cult of being grounded created a lot of frustration for me. After years of practising yoga, trying and visualising, my thin legs still wouldn't stand the ground.

My bare feet feel uncomfortable touching soil, grass and this earth. The feeling of earth on which everything is built and everything grows on, is not given for me to walk on and enjoy it. It would make my soles filthy. It would root me into identity and limit my fluidity.

Nevertheless, a state of the body dancing, dissolving in the joy of movement and loss of gravity, seems like a primary task given to those limbs. Like the mind does, I wish my legs would be able to lift off and dance away never to land again.

Maybe that’s why I love swimming so much in the depths of the sea, where the ground could as well be above our head, where falling is upwards.

Sea is such a magical element. No matter how turbulent the water is, how high the waves are if you dive deep enough all the disturbance stops. All that matters is water and your relationship with it. The dance with the currents. The give and take, the effort and the letting go.

Just like the fluid core of our lives, water only reacts to other elements at its surface. Just like the core of life, the true depths of the sea are not for us to discover. Only once we touch that ground in our lifetime. Only then, we lived never to come back. Never to walk this earth again. That is as far as I get to believe in being grounded.
